Reagent consists of a pasty mixture of organic polymers as absorbers for water; metallic aluminum, magnesium and/or zinc powder as chemical reducing agent; ammonium hydrogen carbonate; thixotropic agent; and distilled or deionized water. An Independent claim is also included for a process for cleaning natural and/or artificial stone using the above reagent. Preferred Features: The reagent contains 0.1-10.0 wt.% polymer; 0.1-5.0 metal powder; 1.5-20.0 wt.% ammonium hydrogen carbonate; 0.9-28.0 wt.% thixotropic agent; and 97.4-37.0 wt.% water. The thixotropic agent is made of amorphous pyrogenic silicic acid, bentonite and/or cellulose. The cellulose is in the form of flocs. The reagent is sprayed onto the stone surface that is subsequently covered with a water vapor impermeable foil, the foil is removed, and the reagent is brushed off. The foil is a plastic or aluminum foil.
