Acceleration sensor comprises a sphere (3) with an electrically conducting outer surface and an inner iron core. The sphere contacts two contact surfaces (1, 2) under the influence of a permanent magnet (4) to complete a circuit. Under strong acceleration the sphere moves away from the contacts so that a processor can detect a circuit break.
