Flavonoids substituted by phenyl, pyridyl, furyl or methylpyrrolyl groups are new, the phenyl or heterocyclic substituents optionally being bonded via unsaturated groups. Flavonoids of formula (I) are new. R = a group of formula (Ia) or Ib); R1 = H, 1-4C alkyl, hydroxy, 1-4C alkoxy, phenyloxy or benzyloxy; R2 = H or 1-4C alkyl; R3 = H, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy or cyano; R4 = H, 1-4C alkyl or phenyl; n = 0 or 1; and Het = pyridyl, furyl or methylpyrrolyl, with the proviso that when R is (IA) and n = 0, at least two of R1 - R3 are H.
