The method involves generating an interference signal for a useful signal that transmits the television or data programmes or the data services. The interference signal is suppressed at a subscriber's request, so that the useful signal can be received without interference. The interference signal is generated at the subscriber side and added to the useful signal there. An Independent claim is included for an apparatus for controlling subscriber access.
