The device has a number of light bodies (2) mounted on a bearer (1) and a plate-shaped focusing element (3) mounted parallel to the bearer. The focusing element contains a number of individual reflectors, each associated with a light body. The light bodies are in form of LEDs or light emitting semiconducting bodies and the light bodies and their associated individual reflectors are arranged in matrix fashion. Independent claims are also included for the following: the use of a signal light in a traffic light or railway sign.
