The melt spinning assembly, with a number of spinning units (1.1, 1.2) and winders (9.1, 9.2) for the spun filaments (8), has the filament winders deployed in a row in pairs with their servicing sides (19.1-19.4) away from each other. The melt spinning assembly has the filament winders in pairs in a mirror image. The gap between the outer sides of each pair of winders is greater than the gap between the facing inner sides of the winders in a pair, to give a servicing passage between pairs of winders. Two filament winders together can form a double winder, in a mirror layout flanking the center plane parallel to the filaments. The rear walls (20.1, 20.2) of the filament winders form a common rear wall, in a double winder configuration. Each of the spinning stations has a number of spinnerets to extrude a number of multifilaments, to be wound simultaneously into two bobbins (15). Two neighboring filament winders are controlled for synchronized working. The layout of the spinning stations and the bobbin winders gives parallel paths for the spun filaments from the spinning to the winding stages. A number of filament processing stages (23.1-23.4) are in the filament paths between the spinning and winding stations. The filaments are processed collectively or separately in their paths to the winders. The processing stages are deployed back to back, so that the filaments can be laid into the processing and winding stages from a common feed side. Each filament winder has a moving spindle carrier, with two spaced bobbin spindles (10). The carrier moves the bobbin spindles alternately into a winding zone to wind the filament into a bobbin, and a doffing zone where the full bobbin is removed.
