A process removes pollutants from industrial waste water in a system with buffer tanks, pumps and control units is new. A process removes pollutants from industrial waste water in a system with buffer tanks, pumps and control units. The wastes containing especially more than 5000 mg/L pollutants and 20 kg/m3 are fed as batches into a reactor filter. The modular reactor contents are maintained at ambient temperature and homogenized under turbulent conditions by compressed air. A radical forming agent (e.g. hydrogen peroxide, ozone, oxygen atoms, hydroxyl radicals) is progressively introduced to the turbulent substance, in proportion to the initial concentration of the pollutant, the filter surface area, and the target final concentration. A jet within a by-pass feeding the reactor and/or into process water containers, in which treated water is collected, effects the introduction. The compressed air pressure is set in accordance with the static height above the constructional height of the reactor. The industrial sludge is de-watered at reduced pressure. The filtrate is subjected to radiation from ultra violet light. There is continual filtrate circulation between reactor and the UV radiation zone, maintained at a rate which is considerably above the incoming rate of water. An Independent claim is also included for a commensurate modular assembly which is set up to deal with the pollutants in question, where the reactor (1) is a tank open at the top and containing an upright or inclined filter.
