Sailboat trim corrector for vertical rudders comprises vane of symmetric section on rudder blade midway between water line and blade bottom for hydrodynamic angle change at leading edge.
Sailboat trim corrector for vertical rudders comprises vane of symmetric section on rudder blade midway between water line and blade bottom for hydrodynamic angle change at leading edge.
A transverse vane (12) fitted to the rudder blade (3) below water level can be adjusted in hydrodynamic angle and consists of two vane sectors (121,122) symmetric to the center plate of the rudder blade, thus giving the vane a symmetric section overall. The vane is best positioned midway between water level and blade bottom and the leading edges of the two sectors form an angle of less than 180 deg , the apex lying in the travel direction. With the vane rigidly fixed to the rudder blade, this blade can be so adjusted relative to the hull as to modify the hydrodynamic angle of the vane. The vane angle or length can also be adjusted remotely under hydraulic or mechanical control by twisting a handle on the tiller (4) or extension rod fitted to this.
