The method involves correcting the output side in-phase signal of a delay-locked loop circuit (15) by the known data bit of data bit modulation determined in a data bit decision stage (17) so that a signal is formed containing the carrier phase but not the modulated data signal, estimating the phase with a coherent phase-locked loop (22) or PLL circuit and adding a coarse phase estimate determined by an incoherent PLL circuit (16).
