The reactive load compensation method has the reactive power and the effective power measured on the load side and used for providing the cosine of the power angle, compared with the cosine of the work angle obtained by corresponding measurement of the reactive work and the effective work, for controlling switching in of a number of compensation devices (60,62,64), e.g. compensation capacitors. An Independent claim for a reactive load compensation device is also included.
