The device has a housing (12) with turbine wheel (32), and a bridging clutch assembly (56) with friction element (66,68) and contact pressure element (58). A ratio of outside flow diameter in the turbine wheel area to an outside friction diameter of a friction element, is between 1.30 and 1.80, pref. between 1.35 and 1.70 and/or a ratio of outside friction diameter to inside friction diameter is between 1.20 and 1.25, pref. between 1.15 and 1.20. The housing assembly encloses the bridging clutch assembly in a cylinder shape.
