The invention relates to a method for controlling the shifting sequence of a continuous automatic transmission, especially a motor vehicle, comprising gear step changeovers. The transmission ratio of the automatic transmission can be continuously adjusted within a set gear step range by means of an adjustment unit. The invention provides for co-ordinated, data-dependent control of the gear step changeovers and of the continuous transmission ratio adjustment by means of a common shifting sequence control system.
