Components are made to lie in a sorting or ejection position (11) with their peripheral surfaces in contact with a first support or contact surface, and with their first profiled or second non-profiled end surfaces oriented in an essentially vertical plane next to a second support or contact surface. A flow of gas or air exits from at least one opening (10) in the second surface and passes out into the surrounding atmosphere via a gap between the respective component and second surface. An incorrectly oriented component will result in the profiling of the first end surface forming a greater flow cross-section compared with a correctly oriented component. The flow of gas or air is set so that correctly oriented components are kept in the sorting or ejection position due to an underpressure generated according to Bernoullis law, whilst incorrectly oriented components are removed from this position due to an absence of an underpressure. An Independent claim is also included for the sorting apparatus used to carry out this method.
