The clamping device comprises a rest (6) by which it is laid on an edge side individual element (2) of the floor covering, and a L-shaped leg (7) on the front of the rest for fitting behind the individual element. A guide (12,13) for a spacing element (9) is located on the rest. The spacing element is axially movable from an initial position against the pressure of a return spring (14) into a forward clamping position and fixable in this position by a spring-loaded clamping lever (17).
