Device for vacuum refining a glass melt comprises a portal-like vacuum apparatus (15) in which the glass melt is introduced via a vertical riser pipe (15a) to a horizontal refining bank (15b) and is removed via a vertical downpipe (15c). A vacuum is produced in the refining bank via the glass flow (17b). The space above the glass flow of the bank is divided into partial chambers (16.1, 16.2, 16.3, 16.4) using limiting walls (18.1, 18.2, 18.3).
