The washing machine operating method has an optimal filling level provided upon loading the washing machine drum with laundry, with determination of the weight and the water retention characteristics of the laundry. The imbalance sensor for the washing drum and its effect on the washing programme control are over-ridden until reaching a weight and a water retention which are each 150 % of the optimal filling level, with limitation of the maximum revs of the washing drum.
