The door opening and closing control method has a control unit (8) for the actuators for movement of the aircraft passenger door, coupled to a door control unit (6) which has all or individual function steps selectively switched between a mechanical or an electromechanical control mode, with a manual operating console (7) used for entry of the input commands. The door control unit can use a sequence program for controlling the function steps of the door opening or closing movement. An Independent claim for a device for controlling the opening and closing movement of an aircraft passenger door is also included.
