Device in which the data that is to be sold is encoded prior to sale, with the unblocking of the encoding taking place by reading of the authorization code. The authorization code is user specific. Authorization can be via electronic signature recognition with a chip card or a magnetic card read-write unit used. An Independent claim is made for sales of digital data in which the authorization code applied to a data copy is user specific.
