The method involves detecting the saw (6) vibration signal during sawing using a sensor (1), using an A/D converter (2) to convert the analog sensor signal to digital form and subjecting the digitized signal to computer (3) analysis. The vibration signal can be detected continuously or periodically. The detection process can be triggered by the saw controller (5). An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for determining degree of sharpness of a saw.
