The chopping-up device has a disk cutter set (7) with several disk cutters (S1, S2, S3) of different thicknesses mounted on at least two counter-rotating shafts. The disk cutters on one shaft fit in the gaps between the disk cutters on the other shaft. When the thick disk cutters become worn down, they can be reground to become thin disk cutters, so only the thin ones cannot be re-used.
