A method for identifying pieces of music involves inputting at least one section (MA) of a melody and/or of lyrics for the musical piece to be identified, in an analysis device (1). Agreement of the melody section and/or lyric with the musical pieces (MT) known by the analysis device (1), or parts thereof, are then ascertained and at least one of the known musical pieces (MT) is selected on the basis of the ascertained agreement and the identification data (ID) of the selected music piece (MT) and/or the output of at least one part of the selected music piece (MT) by itself or if no music pieces have been selected, corresponding information is outputted.
