The exhaust bend has a multi-shell connecting section between the inlet (2) and outlet (4) flanges. The third shell (8) encloses the second shell (7) on the side opposite the first shell (6) to form a fluid gap (11) and is connected fluidtight to the inlet and outlet flanges. The third shell has a fluid inlet (9) and a fluid outlet (10) which open out into the gap between the second and third shells and to which is connected the inlet and return pipes respectively of a fluid-fed cooling circuit. An Independent claim is included for a procedure for the operation of an exhaust bend in which fluid fed into the gap between the third and second shells forms a heat conducting connection.
