The method involves fine-machining the inside face of the bore (14) at atmospheric temperature using a honing tool (15) with measuring device to measure distance between inner face and measuring device. The inner diameter of a reference device (11) is changed relative to a reference inside diameter which exists at a reference temperature by a measure proportional to the product of the temperature difference between atmospheric temperature and the reference temperature and the thermal expansion coefficient of the workpiece material. The thermal expansion coefficient differs significantly from the thermal expansion coefficient of steel materials. Independent claim describes honing device with reference device for adjusting measuring device.
