The bonnet comprises an outer upper shell (1) extending from the front of the vehicle up to the windscreen. Underneath the upper shell is an inflatable airbag (3) which when inflated raises up the upper shell so that a yielding impact zone is produced for a pedestrian on impact with the vehicle. The airbag can be filled with gas so that the upper shell lifts up uniformly. A lower shell (2) can be provided and a path restrictor comprising a draw strap (25) can be provided between the upper and lower shells.
