Method for measuring the rotational velocity of a rotating component, especially the shaft of a motor vehicle gear train and for determination of its angular position relative to a set position. Accordingly the device has a ring with an array of magnetic north and south poles, with the angle determined based on the sequence of poles detected using a sensor.
