Test head or probe (5) for ultrasonic testing of metallic sheets comprising a probe block containing an oscillator functioning as ultrasound transmitter and receiver. The probe is fixed to a mounting (1) that can be tilted within a support frame (2). Along the bottom side of the probe head is a rectangular cut away recess so that the probe can be moved along the edge of a rolled plate where there is a crest or burr without damage to the probe.
