The method for reducing the friction between the outer surface of the wall (5) of a pipe (2) and the surrounding ground (1) involves division of the pipe wall in axial direction, and rotation of the separation tool (10) to produce a separation gap which runs along a helical line in the pipe wall. Also claimed is an apparatus for implementation of the method.
