A safety cutout component built into the base of a lamp uses a twin-pole device to disconnect a power feed to a lamp unit if the lamp leans sideways from the vertical beyond a preset angle. The safety cutout component is designed as a springy feeler that is pressed inwards by the weight of the bottom closing together phase and earth contacts if the lamp is vertical. If the lamp leans sideways from the vertical, the feeler is pressed outwards by a spring to open the contacts.
