A method for the production of nitroguanidine (I) by reaction of guanidine nitrate (II) with high-concentration nitric acid (HCNA) followed by hydrolysis of the resulting nitroguanidine nitrate (III) with water to give (I) and nitric acid, in which the concentration of the nitric acid formed by hydrolysis must not exceed 25%.
