The present invention relates to a method for producing very thin, highly hydrophobic and oleophobic layers on polymeric substrates. The layers according to the invention are stable in boiling water and are resistant to scrubbing with plastic fleeces under pressure. According to the described method, substrate surfaces are pretreated using physical methods. The subsequent coating with a solution of fluoroalkyl-functional organopolysiloxanes in water or alcohol and tempering the substrates at a higher temperature leads to the desired properties.
