To block the capillary spread of moisture in a building construction, especially at ground and cellar levels, a sintered layer is introduced into the concrete material using manifold silicates as rock components in the material. A laser beam is used to deliver the energy to fuse the silicates into an amorphous structure without capillaries and form a barrier against rising damp and which is resistant to hydrocarbons.
