Production of a flat glass product comprises: shaping a planar flat glass intermediate product using electromagnetic radiation having a wavelength of 0.8-1.5 Micro in the near infrared region; forming a one-dimensional bend in the radiation field; and quickly subjecting the flat glass product to the effect of the radiation field. An independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the process. Preferred Features: The flat glass product is transported from the radiation field after forming the bend. A halogen lamp operating with a temperature of more than 2500 K, especially above 2900 K, is used as a the radiation in the near infrared region.
