The method involves increasing the diameter of the laser beam in an optical system (22) and reducing its angular separation. The laser beam (14) is focused on the material (3) to be processed following expansion of its diameter and reduction of its angular separation. Laser beams are controlled to intersect in fan form near the inlet pupil of the optical system. INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for an arrangement for material processing with laser beams.
