An automated process for the precise application of a spatial and time dependent temperature distribution to a thermoplastic raw material (2), in order to form the material in a mould, comprises applying laser light. The laser is computer controlled, and the temperature distribution is determined using measurement instruments. A computer controls the laser beam over the thermoplastic surface, and reflectors and mirrors deflect the beam.
