In an electro-optical liquid crystal (LC) display, having a layer of LC between two substrates that have orientation layers (OL) on their inner surfaces, the new feature is that OL are 3-150 nm thick. The LC layer has twist angle from one substrate to the other of 110-360 deg and the surface set-up angle is 2-20 deg .
