Method for operating a screen comprising a matrix of pixels in which in a first operating mode the pixels are excited to generate corresponding image signals on the screen according to a test pattern. From the pattern the degree of usage of each pixel is quantitatively measured and recorded. In the second operating mode the stored usage values are used to excite the pixels by different amount and so compensate for different usage amounts. The invention also relates to a corresponding circuit for implementation of the inventive method and a plasma monitor.
