A remote infra-red measuring process determines the seat of a fire using the near infra-red and visible spectrum. A multi-sensor process simultaneously captures data including temperature, gas and particle concentration for analysis. An Independent claim is also included for a multi-sensor system comprising a combination of a bi-spectral image generating infra-red sensor operating in the thermal infra-red range, a sensor (VIS/NIR-CCD) operating in the visible and infra-red range, both with high spatial resolution and a spectral high-resolution IR-Fourier transform spectrometer (IRFTS) operating in the thermal infra red range with relatively low resolution.
