Production of a cooling channel piston for an internal combustion engine comprises inserting an annular support (5) in a mold and surrounding the support with casting melt. A removable core (2) is inserted before casting at about the same height as the annular support and coaxially to the annular support. The core lies against the annular support. An Independent claim is also included for a cooling channel piston made by the above method. Preferred Features: The peripheral inner contour of the annular support is adapted as far as possible to the peripheral outer contour of the core so that the core is held within the annular support after insertion. The core is made of heat-resistant fiber material.
