The steel prop (30) has two clamping portions (60) retained by a retainer (70) to enable the steel prop to bear both axial pressure and axial pulling force. The clamping portions can be moved toward and away from each other within a certain distance without departure. The steel prop also has an inner tube (50) formed with continuous thread (54) and a bottom end slidably nested in an outer tube (40). The outer tube has an inner wall at the top end formed with a conic face with inward tapered inner diameter.
