The beam guidance method uses expansion of the pulse duration of the ultra-short laser pulses. This provides a pulse duration preventing the damage threshold of an optical fiber or optical fiber bundle being reached. The pulses are then passed through the fiber, with subsequent compression of the laser pulse duration to obtain a required pulse duration, after reception from the optical fiber or optical fiber bundle. An Independent claim for a beam guidance device for ultra-short laser pulses is also included.
