Production of an expanded glass body comprises immersing an immersion tube (10) into a glass melt (8) and removing to remove an amount of the me and blowing air or gas into a mold of the glass body to be produced. The immersion tube is controlled so that it is immersed with its free end above a determined immersion depth in the melt. An Independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the process comprising a glass melt unit (4), an immersion tube, an adjusting unit (18) for lowering, immersing and removing the tube, a pressure measuring unit (32), a pump (26) for expanding the glass body, and a computer (24).
