In a process to enhance water quality in a lake or lagoon with a sediment base and promote biological equilibrium, aerated water is drawn over the sediment from a colony of micro-organisms. A selected group of microbes breeds in the vicinity of the sediment layer, growth promoted by oxygen. The water to be processed is drawn through numerous water inlets and is mixed with oxygen prior to discharge at other points. The inlets and outlets are arranged in sequential pattern driving natural stratified water flow at lower level just above the sediment floor.
