A method for the transition metal-catalysed production of aqueous dispersions of (co)polyolefins or vinylaromatic (co)polymers, comprises reacting (co)monomers in an aqueous medium in the presence of a cationic complex of a late transition metal, optionally with an ionic compound, Bronsted or Lewis acid cations or a strong neutral Lewis acid as a cocatalyst. An Independent claim is also included for aqueous dispersions obtained by this method.
