The method involves holding the pipe (5) between a bending plate (2) and a counter holder (3). The distance between the pipe and the bending plate is determined optically after bending. The reflection of light directed onto the pipe is converted into a photocurrent and a detected optical value is related to a bending angle detected at the bending plate. An Independent claim is also included for the following: a device for implementing the method.
