Production of an igniter involves inserting a pyrotechnical into a casing (14) via the open end (18) so that one edge (20) of the casing axially protrudes at the open end against the ignition kit (16); axially reducing the protruding part of the edge whilst removing the material of the protruding edge; and closing the open end. An Independent claim is also included for a casing for the igniter. Preferred Features: The ignition kit is compressed before axially reducing the casing. The protruding edge is removed or torn from the casing. The open end is closed by a cap.
