The treatment method uses spaced gas burners for burning off the gases released by the biochemical degradation of the waste material, which is sealed below a fluid-tight cover, with distributed infiltration of seepage water via a number of seepage water fields (2,3,4) across the surface of the waste dump. The seepage water fields are separated from one another via fluid-tight separation skirts (14) and supplied via respective feed lines. An Independent claim for a waste dump installation is also included.
