Mobile terminal device (1), such as mobile phone or PDA, contains a mechanical device (15) with which lateral relative movements between the mobile device and a surface (2) can be detected and used for the input of data, such as text, into the mobile device. In addition the device can include and electro-dynamic energy converter (11, 12) with which the movement is used to charge an energy supply unit (13). The invention also relates to a corresponding method for entering data into a mobile device by relative movement of the device itself relative to a surface.
