Process for casting liquid metals, especially steel, comprises: feeding the liquid metal from a feed container (10) held under atmospheric pressure into an air-excluded casting container (11); applying a low pressure over the metal meniscus; and feeding the liquid metal through an outlet pipe (13) on the lower side into a casting region. An independent claim is also included for a device for casting steel strips. Preferred Features: The liquid metal is fed into the casting region by regulating the low pressure in the casting container. The flow of liquid metal through the feed container is controlled over the ferrostatic height of the meniscus of the liquid metal.
