To control effluent flows and/or clean sewers, at least one passage opening (6) in the base outflow is closed temporarily by a flap (3) through least one control (2). This builds up a flushing wave in the sewer (1), to rinse out any deposits and carry them away. An overflow fills the sewer and builds up back pressure in the stalled flow.
