A method for producing platelets involves applying fluid or gaseous starting material to a substrate, solidifying, removing from the substrate and milling. The material is applied in layers each with a thickness of 0.2-1000 microns, and the isolated stack is treated so that the material splits into separate layers which are then milled to a particle size of 0.5-10000 microns.
